For irish events, does your sail number have to match that of you hull number?

The rules of the International Laser Class specify that your hull number is your sail number. If you sail with a sail number that is different to your hull number you are breaking a Class Rule (except under very specific circumstances set out in that Rule). It is not sufficient that your sail number is different from everyone else's. When you compete in an event you agree to be bound by the "Rules" and the Class Rules are part of those rules. It would therefore be open to anyone to protest you and the Committee would simply ask "Did you have permission to imfringe the Class Rule - Yes or No?" If the answer is "No" the only possible penalty is disqualification. There is rarely any valid reason why anyone would want to sail with a number other than their own. It is perfectly possible to take off incorrect numbers and position the new (correct) ones in their place.
