I was discusted with the amount of sailors at the nationals who just threw their empty wrappers and bottles into the water.I really think there should be some kind of repercussion for the people who act in this way As the ad says "If you act like filth you look like filth"

Yeah i agree. There should be a fine like £10 to the RNLI if caught.

Agree Sean. It is disgraceful that some people think it OK to sail on the most beautiful waters in the world and dump their rubbish in it. It is against the law to discard any plastics into the sea, an offence against the environment and, some consider, brings the sport into disrepute. A tenner fine is a bit light when you consider that plastic can remain in the water for 300 years, give or take a centuary or two. However, the solution is at hand, RIBS. At each event there is at least one RIB for every 7-10 Lasers. Be they rescue, race committee, jury, coach or spectator any of whom would gladly take rubbish from a sailor rather then see it thrown into the water. So, next time you have, or pick, rubbish from the water please pass it onto the nearest RIB. Leave the sea as you would like to find it, CLEAN!
