ALL PROSPECTIVE ENTRANTS should please register your interest for the appropriate event on the ILCA website NOW. If you do not apply now you will NOT be offered a place if one is available. Standard Rig : Ranking will be strictly based on the ILA Ranking Ladder but will include both the Munster and Ulster Championships 2008 as two of the five “Ranking” events. Radial Rig : Ranking will be strictly based on the ILA Ranking Ladder but will include both the Munster and Ulster Championships 2008 as two of the five “Ranking” events. 4.7 Rig : Ranking will be based solely on the total of the points gained in both the Munster and Ulster Championships 2008. This is designed to allow those that are new into the fleet an opportunity to demonstrate their capabilities within the 4.7 Rig fleet. NOTE : The European Laser Standard Youth Championship is an Open Event but competitors must be at least 17 years old but not 21 years old in 2008. It will be held in Douarnenez, FRANCE on the same dates as the European Laser Radial Youth Championship.

QUESTION - What is the position with sailors moving from 4.7 to Radial this year? (This was catered for last year- messages / decisions now deleted) (From j) ANSWER - The “Qualifying Series” for both the Radial and the Standard Rigs is the Ranking Ladder following both the 2008 Munster and 2008 Ulster Championships (see paragraph 5 of the “ILA Ranking System” under “Ranking” on this website). This is to allow sailors to show their potential in 2008 in the Radial and Standard Rigs. Anyone who feels that they may be disenfranchised by making a move from one Rig to another should contact the Hon. Secretary without delay (through the link on this website) and the matter will receive urgent attention.

QUESTION - Does that mean you could apply say for two events and whatever one you get, you can enter for? (from Curious?) ANSWER - If you put your name down for an event you are expected to take up a place if it is offered to you. If you do not take up that place your District will be expected to pay for that place (because it was offered) and you are likely to find your name on a “Black List”. If so, it is probable that you would not be offered a place in one or more future events.

QUESTION - How are places decided for European Male Radial Event? Is it based on last years ranking? Thanks (From Ciaran) ANSWER - The “Qualifying Series” for both the Radial and the Standard Rigs is the Ranking Ladder following both the 2008 Munster and 2008 Ulster Championships (see paragraph 5 of the “ILA Ranking System” under “Ranking” on this website). This is to allow sailors to show their potential in 2008 and this may be particularly relevant for someone moving into the Radial or Standard Rig fleet. All of this should be clear from the information posted on this “Message Board” and from the links on both the “News” and the “Home” page.
